Bro- og Tunnelselskapet AS is established
Bro- og Tunnelselskapet (B&T) was founded by private initiative in 1953. The company was originally formed to realise two road communications projects with important strategic significance for the industrial and civic development of the city of Bergen:
”The company’s objects are to construct and operate a bridge over the Puddefjord and a road tunnel from Øijorden to Eidsvåg, and to carry on financing, facilitation and operation of other transport and communications systems.”
The model for realising the construction of the Puddefjord bridge and the Eidsvåg tunnel in Bergen was subsequently adopted and developed further in large parts of the world. This involves private companies being set up to finance, build and operate transport and communications projects until the projects are paid for.
